Job Description

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide significant legal services, advice and specialist expertise to GM Middle East Operations (MEO) that supports business activities and facilitates the organisation meeting and exceeding Business Plan objectives. The role will provide its customers with timely, commercially focused advice which complies with GM’s legal, ethical, policy and risk management considerations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Significant personal responsibility for prompt delivery of timely, commercially focused, and balanced legal and compliance services, advice and support to clients in MEO, that complies with GM’s legal, ethical, policy and risk.
• Providing legal support for all levels of MEO staff and management, with support from Lead Counsel (40% supervised). Build strong relationships with functional leadership and managers
• Develop and deliver training on key areas like anticorruption, contracts, export compliance, antitrust/marketing
• Advise on compliance issues (e.g. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), export compliance), contract review and negotiations (including joint venture agreements, real estate, Dealer Sales and Services Agreement (DSSAs), supply and service agreements etc.), advertising and marketing, Intellectual Property (IP), dealer / franchisee issues, dispute resolution / litigation with customers, suppliers, government and other third parties, HR/ Industrial Relations (IR) issues
• Assist clients in negotiations with third parties, including contractual negotiations, customer claims and communications with Authorities
• Contribute to management of strategic legal issues impacting GMMEO / GM
• Keep abreast of changes and updates in law, and updating of business as appropriate
• Manage customer claims and product liability process
• Providing legal expertise for all corporate secretarial and related regulatory compliance and reporting
• Participate in local/regional/global projects as required to ensure optimum outcomes for GM
• Participating in regional and global
• Process calls and communications
• Share information within the Legal function on all pertinent matters, including Antitrust, Privacy, Compliance, Contract Law, etc.
• Assist Lead Counsel in forecasting, tracking, and controlling all legal spends
• Provide advice in the development of legal processes and documents. Identify continuous improvement opportunities within the Legal function
• Where appropriate, manage outside counsel

Additional Job Description

Knowledge/Education:

• Bachelor of Laws
• Sound understanding of GM’s vision and business objectives
• Sound understanding of business issues of dedicated client groups
• Good grasp of industry best practice
• Detailed and comprehensive knowledge of UAE Law and regional law. Develop knowledge of International Law

Skills:

• Sound understanding of key relevant legal principles and current legislation in UAE and the region
• Project management
• Developing ability to readily understand, at high level, technology and issues associated with various aspects of GM operations including its design, development, and manufacturing processes
• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Multinational Corporation or law firm of repute
