Job Description:

The Senior On Track Plant Technician – Crossrail is responsible for the safe planning, coordination and safe operation of all plant required for the support of all Maintenance, Renewals and improvement activities. This will include all rail mounted and wheel mounted vehicles, lifting equipment and hand portable plant.

Initially, the Senior Maintenance Support Technician will assist the Railway Plant Maintenance Engineer to ensuring that the plant required to support the maintenance of the new Crossrail railway is commissioned into service and fit for purpose to enable maintenance activities to be conducted safely and efficiently. Upon introduction of Crossrail into operation, the Senior On Track Plant Technician will assist the Railway Plant Maintenance Engineer in their responsibilities for the planning and safety critical tactical deployment of all plant required by the delivery teams in the execution of the maintenance requirements. They have the technical decision authority and on call duties.

Job Responsibilities:

  • You will be providing lighting and power to maintenance team on track
  • You will deliver continuous improvement through a delivery of change initiatives; specifically using Reliability Based Maintenance as part of the “Predict and Prevent” asset stewardship strategy
  • You will ensure that Crossrail Ltd fully address the specification, planning, execution and quality of the maintenance engineering and safety management requirements. This is part of the asset management strategy and plan to deliver the required asset whole life, Reliability
  • Availability Maintainability (RAM) and Remote Condition monitoring
  • You will assist the Delivery and Engineering functions in delivering a 5 year asset investment budget. Lead the plant teams to support the delivery of maintenance tasks as defined by the IME’s, following defined Crossrail standards, processes, procedures and performance to be delivered
  • You will be working on four power cars and 3 bed wagons delivering spares and equipment to sites ( such as transformers, screen doors, track, switch and crossings just to name those few)
  • You will support the delivery and execution of Infrastructure maintenance works, renewals and enhancement works. This includes inspections, self assurance checks and quality checks
  • You will be lifting equipment via crane, drainage clearance and washing screen doors.
  • You will ensure regulatory requirements are met by applying established policies and procedures to ensure safety operation of all plant owned or hired by RfL(I)

Job Requirements:

  • Member or Associate of a relevant professional institution
  • HND or equivalent qualification
  • Team leader experience with leadership skills to motivate professionals from multiple disciplines
  • Experience in the management of infrastructure stewardship and maintenance
  • Excellent decision-making and analytical skills
  • Experience of successfully leading a team
  • Knowledge of regulations required for the use of Plant and Lifting equipment (LOLER)
  • Established risk management skills
  • Demonstrable understanding of the business structure of and agencies associated with the Rail Industry
  • Experience of working alongside other engineering functions
  • Demonstrable application of railway safety-related standards regime and processes
  • Ability to formulate and articulate clear visions for the planning and delivery of initiatives and programmes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven negotiation and influencing skills explicitly with external contractors
  • Knowledge of Rail Safety standards
  • Experience in the rail or other infrastructure and asset critical industries
