The Candidate

As Commis I you will join a committed Culinary team, driven with the intent of delivering ‘FIVE-star’ experiences to an international diaspora in the heart of vibrant Dubai and Zurich.

The VIBE at FIVE is all about performing optimally while having the best professional experience of your life. You will be expected to have a passion for your role, disrupt norms all whilst having the best time of your life.

As our ideal candidate, you have proven experience in a highly active environment. Your organizational, communication, and leadership skills are second to none and you enjoy developing guest solutions that break boundaries.

We are looking for a natural self-starter who demonstrates creative and critical thinking abilities, can focus on, and execute, tasks with a sharp eye for detail. An outgoing, people-friendly personality with an ability to think ‘on your feet’ during changing situations is also essential.

You’ll work closely with the management team to develop constantly evolving service goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist, establishing priority items
  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food before use
  • Cook food and prepare top-quality menu items in a timely manner
  • Test foods to ensure proper preparation and temperature
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company Food Safety Programs within assigned area of responsibility, as well as Dubai Municipality standards.
  • Prepare hot food including working on the grill and also have and experience of working in the butchery
  • Follow company and department safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment
  • Anticipate Chef’s needs, including asking questions to better understand their needs and watching/listening to preferences and acting on them whenever possible
  • Test foods to ensure proper preparation and temperature
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly
  • Ensure the proper sanitation and cleanliness of surfaces and storage containers
  • This role requires the ability to move and lift up to 25 lbs
  • Standing, sitting or walking for extended periods of time is also a part of the job profile
  • A professional appearance in a clean uniform is essential


Requirements


What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in Middle Eastern cuisine
  • Positive outlook and outgoing personality with an enthusiastic energy
  • Hands-on approach and flexibility with a ‘can-do’ work attitude
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional F&B services with a passion
  • Prior experience of working in a high-volume kitchen is important
  • Ability to find creative solutions while taking ownership for all duties and tasks assigned
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Teamwork-oriented
  • Previous relevant gastronomic experience of 1-2 years is a plus
  • Ability to be proactive, work hard and adjust job scope as required
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a bonus
