The Department of Food Science, College of Food and Agriculture, United Arab Emirates University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor in the area of Food Microbiology and Food Chemistry with experience in Microbiomics and molecular biology. This is a full-time position with an appointment in research and teaching. We expect the candidate to build a nationally and internationally recognized research program focused on understanding of different chemical components in food and their interaction on gut microbiota. Our ideal candidate will use molecular and computational techniques to enhance traditional food microbiology, chemistry, and microhabitats to address functional, technological, and sensorial properties of food and their impact on microbiome. Applicants whose expertise falls in quantitative food chemistry and microbiology techniques and “omics” approaches are particularly welcome to apply.
The successful candidate should also have demonstrated expertise in classroom education. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate/graduate teaching responsibilities. Service expectations include participation in appropriate professional organizations and on departmental/college/University committees. The successful candidate will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation and undergraduate research, and publishing research results with students. Faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. The faculty member will actively seek contract and grant funding to support his/her program.

Minimum Qualification
A doctorate (PhD) in microbiology with a background in food or dairy science, or a closely related discipline is required with a strong publication record in the applicant’s chosen field. At least 3-5 years of teaching and research experience is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of research funding’s. Candidates must also have a commitment to CFA core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
Preferred Qualification
Strong data analysis and computer skills are important. Applicants that could potentially use expanding campus resources in computing also encouraged to apply.
Teaching, research and student mentoring experience is essential. Administrative experience at the departmental, college or university level will be positively considered but is not essential.
